'Tis the Sequin: A Party Season Staple.

Updated: Feb 7

As a personal stylist, I'm constantly reading and researching everything fashion related and I'm always on the hunt for one-of-a-kind pieces. So when I scooped up a Barrance & Ford '60s sequin minidress at The Vintage Workshop in Brighton last year, I knew I'd found a little gem. When emails started to trickle into my inbox this year - in early October - featuring one sequin piece after another, I smiled knowingly; this party season, sequins especially would be everywhere.

Of course it's no surprise sequins would be a popular choice at Christmas time, but this year, in particular, there seems to be a real emphasis on wearing this beloved staple. Not only does it provide that instant sparkle, it's also a very versatile piece - easily taking you from AM to PM - dress it up or down.

As if my inbox had turned into my very own Advent calendar - with every click, a new item revealed; trousers, blouses, jackets, skirts, dresses, clutches,

shoes; big sequins, little sequins - you name it, it was covered in it. Faced with one dazzling choice after another, it's hard not to be tempted to own them all - after all everyone needs sequin trousers in every colour and style possible, right?

As beautiful as they all are, my own vintage sequin dress is perfect (I'm already imagining the perfect earrings and shoes to go with). So if you're thinking of purchasing a sequin number this year - good choice. Or if you already have one in your wardrobe (lucky you), just bursting to be worn again but struggling to think of ways to style it differently this year - have no fear, help is here.

If you take your stylish self over to @k_lstylist on instagram and follow my account, you can find many ways to style a sequin dress through my Advent calendar - 24 ways in fact. Since there is something sequin for everyone this year, don't forget a great stylist can help find that perfect piece for you - be it brand new, vintage or a hidden gem from your own wardrobe. Having your own personal stylist behind the scenes to help create the looks you desire is actually very attainable. Just imagine:

Your colleague: "Ooh, I love your outfit!"

You: "Thanks! My stylist put it together."

Everyone: "Oooh, tell me more..."

So get this party started already! Have a look at some noteworthy pieces below.

'Tis the Season after all, or as I like to say - 'Tis the Sequin...

Silver Sequin Shirt Dress, Mint Velvet £179.

I love the versatility of this dress. You can dress it up or down. Belt it, wear with a chunky knit over top and loafers or a fine knit turtleneck underneath. Or go all out with a stiletto heel and statement earrings. White knee high boots would also look amazing. Beautiful.

Wow! I love everything about this dress. Keep it looking chic - pair with sock ankle boots, a silver stiletto or minimalist knee high boots with a kitten heel. Drape a silk white blazer across your shoulders to finish. That's hot.

Sparkly Sequin Motif Jumper, & Other Stories £95

Pair this jumper with straight leg denim and loafers for an ever so chic day look. Then swap for slinky heels and statement earrings for evening. Perfect.

You can't have a post about sequins and not include Paco Rabanne - oh so many to choose from! Add this pink mini to any pared back outfit for an instant hit of sparkle. Too easy.

Sequin trousers + crisp white shirt + minimalist heeled sandal. Gorgeous.

Classic nice top and jeans look. Wear this with everything from wide leg trousers, skirts, jeans and faux leather. V. stylish.
