Watching Pretty Woman recently for the millionth time, I realised, besides the soundtrack, what I especially love about this film; the 90s fashion and the transformative power of clothes - from street chic to polished and preppy. Who doesn't love a style makeover? Everyone can recall the polo match scene - the height of her character's transformation, when Julia wears that brown dress with white polka dots. Set off by her bronzed, sun-kissed skin and perfectly styled auburn updo, the matching gloves, hat and bag complete the look. In fact, this dress became so popular, a version of it appears in the spring & summer collections of every high street and luxury retailer each year.
Actress Jennifer Lawrence stepped out earlier this year at the Oscars wearing a beautiful polka dot gown from the Dior S/S '24 collection, only adding to the print's popularity this season. Translation: you won't have to search long before coming across something in a polka dot.
And yet, even though this particular dress is so synonymous with the film, I noticed the many other classic outfits Julia wears, plus pieces that are trending this season.
